I like to spend time talking to friends and playing video & board games.

The teachers are all really nice and have made everything else easy to adjust to.

What is your favorite subject in school?
I would probably say Math.

Have you improved in any areas since you first started attending Options?
I think I’ve opened up more, and the environment has helped with that.

Do you have any current plans or aspirations for when you’re older, or after you graduate?
I want to go to college and study Criminology to become a detective, or something related to that.

Sydney
Options Indiana

Grade: 12th

What is your hometown / Where are you learning from?
Currently residing in Brownstown, IN! A nice and small town.

When did you start at Options?
I think about halfway through the 2020 school year.

Do you have any hobbies, passions, or ways you enjoy spending your free time?
During my free time, I’ll typically doodle, trying different art styles, different methods, and different shapes. Sometimes I’ll go on to complete the art projects/milestones I set out for myself. I say sometimes as most of the time I do quick sketches to help my understanding of anatomy. Sometimes I’ll write poetry based on the art I draw. Other times, my art/poetry is inspired by the books I read, the music I listen to, or the games I play with my younger brothers. Gaming with my friends or brothers is something I very much enjoy during my free time! Even if it isn’t often, it’s still nice taking the time to enjoy a quick game of Overwatch or Don’t Starve Together.

What is your favorite thing about attending Options?
One of my favorite things is the scheduling! Back in my old school, I was buried with assignments. Here at Options, I’m given a schedule for 2-3 classes, a set number of assignments to do per day (which has been far less than my previous school, thankfully)! Another favorite thing about Options, are the teachers & advisors! At my previous school, the teachers were far from friendly and helpful. At Options, the teachers & advisors are always available until the end of school hours, or until 3-4 hours after school hours, which has been fantastic when I late questions to ask halfway through a project.

What is your favorite subject in school?
I actually have two favorite subjects, History and Science! I enjoy learning about things in the past. What the world went through to be what it is today, and how we’ve evolved. It’s amazing to think about all the things we didn’t have to help us (technology, phones, cars, etc.), how we got through those situations without said items, and how that shaped us into who we are today (and how that shaped us into creating what we need for today’s world). I especially love learning about the days in BC (dinosaur age, I love the study field of Paleontology)!  am a curious person, the subject of science, whether it’s chemistry, biology, or astronomy. I love everything about science and the fields it has to offer! The subject itself allows me to experiment and gives me a better understanding of how the world works. Not only that, but it really makes me wonder, who else is in this universe aside from us? (Astronomy, meteorology, and anthropology are the best fields for questions like that!)

Do you have a favorite teacher or staff member in Options Indiana?
I favor all the teachers I’ve met and have had the pleasure of talking to! Mike, Julie, Thomas, Natalie, and pretty much every teacher/advisor I’ve had has been amazing to work with! They’ve all helped me through the classes, answering any questions I had ASAP, and simply guiding me when I absolutely needed it!

Do you have any current plans or aspirations for after you graduate?
My current plans for after high school involves moving back to Seymour with my boyfriend, Devon, and getting a job close to where we live! We’d like to start the next chapter of our lives a little after I graduate. I have also thought about applying for a college that relates to the field of nursing. Purdue University being the best option, and most recommended by my mother’s friends who are currently working in the field of medicine/nursing.

What have you enjoyed most about Options Indiana?
One of my favorite things about Options Indiana is that I can work at my own pace.

Currently, my favorite subject in school is Science or Art. I’ve always loved science and art for a long time now. I’ve always found science interesting and fun, and art is something I’ve always enjoyed doing whenever I can.

Do you have a favorite teacher or staff member in Options Indiana?
I don’t currently have a favorite because they’re all great and I like all of them equally!

Have you improved in any areas since you first started attending Options?
I’ve improved ways that I feel are important for my development and view on things. Since coming to Options, I’ve seen another side of students and that not everyone goes to school in person for different reasons and how that can affect them, and it really opened my eyes that this is an option for some kids that I never really knew existed.

Do you have any current plans or aspirations for when you’re older, or after you graduate?
When I graduate from school I would like to try and get into a college or university so that I could become a veterinarian for exotic animals. I’ve always loved animals and wanted to be a zookeeper for as long as I can remember and this past year I narrowed down to a specific type.  I haven’t wavered from that and really hope that I can make that dream a reality.
