Alumni Spotlight: Kaylee (Class of 2017)

At Options Schools, we take pride in creating an environment where students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. For many, this supportive space marks the beginning of a remarkable personal and professional journey. Today, we’re proud to shine a spotlight on Kaylee Twitty, a 2017 graduate, to reflect on how her time with Options helped shape her future.

Kaylee’s Journey

Kaylee Twitty enrolled at Options Schools as a freshman in the fall of 2013 and continued through to her graduation from Options in May 2017. Most of her time was spent at the Noblesville campus, though during her junior and senior years, she embraced the flexibility of online learning with Options Schools’ online program, Options Indiana.

When asked what made Options stand out compared to traditional schools, Kaylee didn’t hesitate. “I really loved the small class sizes and the personal connections with staff and teachers,” she shared. “At a bigger school, I barely saw the Principal. At Options, I’d see Michelle [Walden] every day and had great relationships with my teachers. The supportive community at Options truly made a difference for me.”

Administrators like Michelle Walden and Jake Brandau, along with teachers who included Melanie Martin-Terrell and Linda Cunningham, shaped Kaylee’s positive school experience. Kaylee fondly remembers her study hall teacher, Matt Peterson, for his relaxed demeanor, supportive presence, and encouragement. The personal connections with both staff and peers gave Kaylee a unique sense of belonging.

Personal Growth In A Supportive Environment

Prior to Options, Kaylee faced challenges like social anxiety, which had significantly impacted her ability to feel comfortable in a school setting. Reflecting on her own development, she described the positive atmosphere at Options as a catalyst for real change. “That smaller environment and those close relationships really helped me relax and grow. It gave me the chance to gain confidence and gradually overcome the anxiety that held me back.”

This newfound confidence came full circle when Kaylee learned she had been named Valedictorian of her graduating class. “I didn’t think that was possible for me,” Kaylee shared. “It was a moment of pride—not just for me, but for my family and friends, too. That recognition motivated me to pursue new goals, like going to college.”

Life After Graduation

After graduating with honors, Kaylee embarked on her next chapter with hope and optimism. She started classes at Ivy Tech Community College, aided by a scholarship she received from Options. Kaylee later enrolled in online courses at Indiana Wesleyan University. Now nearing the finish line, she is just one year away from completing her bachelor’s degree in Human Services and Leadership. “It hasn’t always been easy,” Kaylee admitted, “but I’ve kept pushing forward, balancing school and work. That drive is something I really credit to the confidence I built at Options.”

A Thriving Career

Since her high school days, Kaylee has worked at Classic Cleaners, where she started working as a junior at Options. Over the years, her role evolved from part-time work to a leadership position. Today, she serves as Store Manager, Employee Trainer, and Five-Star Program Instructor, demonstrating her commitment to excellence in customer service. She also teaches classes on the ins-and-outs of the dry-cleaning process to new and current Classic Cleaners employees.

Balancing these responsibilities with her studies hasn’t been easy, but Kaylee emphasizes how much she’s learned about leadership. Her dedication, perseverance, and ability to stay organized make her a role model for others.

The Role of Options in Kaylee’s Success

When looking back at her time at Options Schools, Kaylee sees it as the foundation of her achievements. “The flexibility at Options really allowed me to succeed,” she explained. “Whether it was pursuing part-time work while completing my education or receiving one-on-one attention to address my learning needs, the support system at Options gave me tools for life.”

She also gave credit to Options for preparing her emotionally and mentally, helping her overcome challenges and setting her up for long-term success.

Why Kaylee’s Story Matters

Kaylee Twitty’s story is a testament to the unique mission of Options Schools—to provide every student with the customized support they need to succeed. For students struggling in larger, less personalized educational settings, Kaylee’s experience is proof that a smaller, flexible, and more understanding environment can make all the difference.

“Options taught me that it’s okay to go at your own pace, to ask for help when you need it, and to celebrate your progress,” Kaylee said. Her advice to current or prospective Options students? “Don’t underestimate what you’re capable of achieving when you have the right support and the courage to say ‘yes’ to new opportunities.”

From overcoming social anxiety to graduating as valedictorian and carving out a successful career path, Kaylee Twitty’s story highlights the profound impact of the Options experience. It’s a reminder that education is not one-size-fits-all.
