Writing and patience

Work for a restaurant or a technology company

Cailyn
Options Westfield Middle School

Grade: 7th

When did you enroll at Options?
I started during this school year

How has your Options experience been this school year?
There are definitely a lot of things that are different here because I’ve never been to a school like Options. The way they just run the school, and the students are just different. The teachers here are all great and I love them.

Why do you think you were selected as Student of the Month?
Probably because of my good grades

Away from school, do you have any hobbies, passions, or ways you enjoy spending your free time?
I really enjoy art, either drawing, or sometimes painting. I also like playing video games. I just like drawing whatever I think of and have been into art for as long as I can remember.

My go-to in video games is anything with Mario. I’m currently playing a game that I already beat, Paper Mario: The Origami King, and I really enjoy it.

What have you enjoyed most about the Options experience?
It is just so welcoming here and that is why I like it. There isn’t any bullying. I don’t know everyone in the school, but there isn’t a ton of people in the hallways or in my classes, so I like that.

What is your favorite subject in school?
Math. I have a math brain and I catch on easily. My mom and grandpa do too, so it kind of runs in the family.

Do you have any current plans or aspirations for when you’re older, or after you graduate?
I’ve had a lifelong dream to go into the culinary field. Specifically, into desserts & pastries. I like it because it’s unique with the designs & it’s just fun. I like to do unique things.

Olivia
Options Westfield

Grade: 11th

Why do you think you were selected as Student of the Month?
I think I was selected as Student of the Month because I always put my full effort into my work even when I am struggling mentally.

Do you have any hobbies, passions or ways you enjoy spending your free time?
I spend my Wednesdays and Sunday’s volunteering at the Humane Society. With any other free time, I’m usually working on schoolwork, or watching documentaries.

What have you enjoyed most about the Options experience?
I enjoy that there is not a pressure with the teachers, and I have only experienced that at Options. By this, I mean that the teachers trust that I am doing my best and do not try to pressure me to over-work myself.

What is your favorite subject in school?
My favorite subject in school is English.

Have you improved in any areas since starting at Options?
I have improved with my communication skills since I have been able to be in smaller classes at Options. By being allowed a smaller class size, it makes it easier for me to practice my public speaking.

Do you have any current plans or aspirations for after you graduate?
I plan on finishing my prerequisite classes for Ivy Tech’s Nursing program over the summer and enrolling in their program in the fall. My goal is to become a Registered Nurse.

How would you explain Options to a friend/neighbor/family member?
I would describe Options as a school that wants to see its students succeed. As an Options student, I know that every teacher knows me by name and wants to see me graduate.
