When did you begin working in the field of education?
I have been teaching social studies to 7th and 8th graders for the past 18 years. I began my teaching career in Phoenix at T.J. Pappas school for homeless kids in September of 2003. Pappas at one time was a car dealership that was transformed into a school for the homeless and traumatized kids. From there, I moved back to the Indy area and started working at Coleman M.S. for I.P.S. Teaching two years worth of work in a year to try and get kids up to speed was part of the curriculum. I went on from there to teach at a number of schools including my last school which was SENSE Charter School.

What do you enjoy most about being part of the Options team?
Part of the draw for me, included the small class sizes, the types of students Options works with, the close proximity of the school, and the different classes I’m able to teach.

What do you enjoy outside of Options?
There are a number of things I enjoy doing. I like to go fishing with my 81 year old father. I love spending time with my 15 year old son, and 12 year old daughter. My main goal with them is to drag them outside and get them off their phones to do something. I also enjoy taking my dog for a walk, and writing. I’ve written two books (one is a Christmas book) and I’m working on a book of short stories. I’m sure our Options students will hear about the books.
