Options Schools and the Hoosier Youth Challenge Academy terminate in-residence education partnership

(April 11, 2022)

Following the conclusion of the 2021-22 school year, Options Schools will no longer serve as the in-residence educational provider for the Indiana National Guard Hoosier Youth Challenge Academy (HYCA).

Options Schools was proud to provide a pathway for HYCA cadets in residence to complete course credits towards earning a high school diploma. Prior to the Options partnership, there was not a pathway for credit attainment available to Hoosier Youth ChalleNGe Academy cadets in residence, in Knightstown, IN.

Since the Options @ HYCA program’s inception in January 2020, Options has educated 242 students over five semesters in Knightstown. Over those five semesters, students have attained a total of 1,616 credits, with 968 of those credits having been attained during the 2021-22 school year.

Notwithstanding the fact that the in-residence education contract has ended with HYCA, Options is still able to educate cadets who graduate from the HYCA residence program. Cadets may choose to return to their previous traditional school, or they can continue their education through Options’ state-wide online program – Options Indiana. If they choose, former HYCA cadets can enroll in Options Indiana and have the opportunity to attain credits in pursuit of their high school diploma.

“We are sad to hear that the Hoosier Youth Challenge Academy is going in a different direction with their education program, but we wish them the best of luck in Knightstown.” said Dr. Mike Gustin, Superintendent for Options Schools. “With the HYCA program representing a small part of our school corporation’s service to Indiana students, Options Schools will continue to serve more than 1,000 students across the state through a number of brick and mortar and online education programs.”
